The Dunbar Garden was established to make a difference in childrens' lives through the lessons taught in the garden. This project began with Pratt Remmel, the Little Rock School District, and Arkansas Urban Gardening Educational Resources (AUGER) working with students of Dunbar Middle School and Gibbs Elementary School. All students actively participate in planting and maintaining the two acre outdoor classroom. The Little Rock Garden Club has given support to this project since its inception. In 2004 and in 2018, Dunbar Garden was a Garden Club of America "Founders Fund" Award finalist, using the $10,000 that was awarded in 2018 for an outdoor teaching kitchen, enabling the garden to sponsor cooking demonstrations and various workshops open to the public throughout the year. Also, vegetables, fruits and herbs grown in the garden are sold at a Wednesday market held at the garden growing season.
